I started smoking cannabis at the age of 13, I remember noticing my dad smoking what looked like cigarettes but he kept coughing and he didn't throw the cigarette butts like he used to instead, he kept them in a container which to me was quite weird. Now as a 13-year-old kid whose parents both smoked cigarettes you can imagine me having tried smoking a cigarette out of curiosity before. Once I realized that my dad probably wasn't just smoking cigarettes and it could be "Marijuana", I knew that I had to steal one of his fat roaches and try it for myself. Now for a kid growing up in the Philippines where Cannabis use is not taken lightly, becoming a "stoner" might not be the best option for you. Our country is very religious and most adults believe that cannabis is the devil's lettuce and consumption will only lead to life imprisonment or death.
Mostly, this is due to a lack of education and media propaganda poisoning the education system and the minds of my fellow countrymen. But still, even with the pressure of my family finding out or getting imprisoned, I still had to feed my curiosity so one day I got one fat roach from my dad's stash and the rest is history. I was so drawn to cannabis, why it affects us, and its history that after I officially became a "stoner", I started questioning plenty of things in my life, I had all these deeper questions that gave me a sense of longing for change. Since I knew everything I was told about cannabis while growing up was a lie.
It just made sense for me to question almost everything I was taught, and even question the system. This was a turning point in my teen years since I never really had an identity that I could call myself, so being a chill, calm, and Zen dude kind of became my persona around people, surprisingly that kept me out of trouble for most of my teen years. Later I find out that both my sisters also smoked cannabis and we all stole from our dad, it was awkward smoking with my sisters at first but I got to admit that Cannabis definitely made me and my sisters closer than ever. Hilariously after a few years, my dad eventually found out I was stealing flowers and roaches from him and when he confronted me, I remember him throwing a plastic bag full of cannabis flowers at my face and telling me in Tagalog "there! so you do not have to steal from me anymore!" From then on me and my dad would always share a joint or a bowl and we were closer than ever. From the time I was 15 till I was 25, I was a pretty big "plug". I became one of the top black-market suppliers in my hometown, I started growing my own supply and learned about cannabis genetics, female and male plants, breeding, cultivating from vegetating to flowering stages, curing, and proper storing from the Online videos I found. Me and my dad eventually mastered growing indoors with hydroponics and we had a steady supply of flowers.
Now since I got married at a very young age and not to mention I had 2 kids by the time I was 24, I knew that selling cannabis illegally was not the best path for me and my family. in 2018 President Duterte was elected and he started the war on drugs campaign where over 100,000 Filipinos were killed for drug possession and drug-related charges. A couple of friends and people I knew were just being shot down like animals. I knew that I had to change and stop selling cannabis to find a different career path. Although I stopped selling cannabis, my passion for the plant was still strong and when Canada legalized cannabis in 2018 we decided to sell everything we had back home and apply to work in Canada so I can finally be part of the cannabis industry. As soon as I made it to Canada, it was my primary objective to obtain a selling it-right license and apply for a budtending position to further expand my knowledge of the industry. after a few months, I was hired by UEM cannabis, which is one of the oldest legacy cannabis dispensaries in Canada.
Now almost a year into it, I am ready to take the next step in my cannabis career, I believe that I have enough cannabis knowledge and experience to become a valuable asset to your company, Not only am I well versed in cannabis, I also have almost a decade experience in customer service and also experience in working from home .
