15 years ago I owned a candy company in the Bay Area when I was approached by my candy manufacturer about getting into medicinal cannabis edibles which was a rapidly emerging category in California at the time. I dove in head first and leased 10 acres of a beautiful former vineyard with southern exposure and transformed it into a highly productive cannabis farm in the heart of the emerald triangle (see best place to grow cannabis in the world).

While there I was able to stand on the shoulders of giants and learn from some of the biggest and best people in this space while getting an early education in every aspect of business that surrounds this plant.

When Canada signalled an intent to legalize, I packed my bags and moved back home where I felt the market was firmly stuck 10 years behind California's and I saw this as an opportunity. I intended (and still do intend) to expand Canada's palate and preference for new cannabis expressions and varietals that go beyond high THC numbers, fast flowering times, or "gas" terpene profiles.

This plant has a dizzying amount of genetic diversity and the way that it presents itself - it's high time we celebrate that!

I am incredibly interested in the science behind what makes a good soil or "terroir" and how the soil makeup directly impacts the taste of fruits, vegetables, etc that grow in it. To my wife's chagrin I am constantly looking to find new amendments and other unusual means of fertilizing my soil beds -currently I have a pile of starfish decomposing in our garage, (sorry Petra, the tomato's say "it'll be worth it")!
